Sunflowers are easy to grow in April-June at a soil temperature of 5-8 degrees centigrade. Sowing depth: 3-5 cm. Sunflowers can be mixed with other flower mixes or a cover crop mix. This helps to ensure good ground cover later in the autumn. Seeded sunflowers do not have the same tendency as corn to be damaged by birds, crows or pheasants.
The sunflower forms a deep taproot which can root down to a depth of 3 metres. Therefore they are drought tolerant by nature.
